Unboxing: HALO FLEET BATTLES

HALO FLEET BATTLES
The Fall of Reach

I have been ummming and arrrring about buying this for some time now, being a big time Halo fan and spending many hours as Master Chief blasting away at the Covenent, but just could not commit to buying it.However after seeing some of the great community paint jobs and the contents of the box I was sold on picking it up. After ordering it from Chaos Cards on Tuesday it arrived with me today, well packed and a speedy delivery, love those guys at Chaos Cards, there is also a great discount on the starter box saving yourself  £13 on the £80 box set.

So on with the unboxing

It's a big box with some classic iconic artwork from the Halo series, alluding to the goodies inside. Linked from Spartan Games website is the contents below

The Fall of Reach box contents include:
  • A full colour 100+ page rulebook packed full of images and examples
  • Fall of Reach campaign guide
  • 49 highly-detailed plastic ship models
    • UNSC (32 models)
      • 1 Epoch-class Heavy Carriers
      • 4 Marathon-class Heavy Cruisers
      • 27 Paris-class Frigates
    • Covenant (17 models)
      • 1 ORS Class Heavy Cruisers
      • 2 CCS Class Battlecruisers
      • 14 SDV Heavy Corvettes
  • 30 custom Halo Dice
  • Fleet Commander Data Sheets
  • Flight Stands and Overlay Cards
  • Punch-out Scenery and Token sheets
  • Quick Guide reference sheets

The covenant plastics are in a nice purple so for those you that do not like to paint you can just assemble and get playing straight out of the box. I am very impressed with detail and I think that Spartan Games and Renedra have produced some great models that are easy to assemble. This certainly raises the bar and pushes the boundaries for future plastics.

The UNSC frames are in a light grey plastic so again easy to assemble and get on the table. The detail on these are great and I especially love the engines looking forward to putting a glow effect on these.

Onto the bases, this a fairly new and unique system allowing your ships to be placed in different formations this is reflected in the cards in the box. Also in the most recent blog on Spartan Games website new formations will be coming out in future box sets.
These are the element cards that allow to pick and choose your formation. I will post more on these once I have had a good read on the rules and played some games.

Above are the books, dice and cards needed for the game. All are produced to a high standard and the fleet cards are glossy so you can use a dry wipe to mark damage if you wanted.

These  are the space effect cards, this for me is the weakest part of the box. Not because of the artwork but because of the thickness of the card. i would have proffered it to be on a ticker card stock such as that FFG use. However I think this will just motivate me to make my own 3D terrain.

Well that is the unboxing done. I am off to put some models together and read up on the rules. I will follow this up with some WIP and Gallery shots.

Comments are always welcome

See you on the flip side

  1. Hi there,
Are the models snap-fit or do you need to glue them with poly-cement?

    1. They will need poly cement, but the instructions are very clear. My next post will show the finished ships prior to painting
